What the codes mean
The small print at the bottom of the Fourth Edition card (#163).
Printed before collector numbers, which started with Exodus in 1998. The bottom shows only the artist credit ("Illus.") and the copyright. Set symbols were all black before Exodus, and core sets before Sixth Edition have none.

Spirit Shackle's ability triggers only when the enchanted creature changes from untapped to tapped. If Spirit Shackle enters attached to an already tapped creature, it won't do anything (until that creature untaps and becomes tapped again, that is).
