What the codes mean

The small print at the bottom of the Archenemy Schemes card (#28★).

28

  • 28Collector number, as Scryfall lists it. The printed form can differ on promos and special products.
  • ★Scryfall's label for the foil version of this card, listed apart from the non-foil one.

Cards from 1998 to mid-2014 print the collector number over the set's card count (like 90/383) next to the copyright line. They have no rarity letter, set code or language code: the set symbol and its colour show the set and rarity.

As the ability resolves, you choose a value for X and decide whether to pay X generic mana. If you do decide to pay X generic mana, it’s too late for any player to respond since the ability is already in the midst of resolving.
